Hi, I’m Katy. I’m a technical content manager in the Salesforce orbit. My job revolves around product and service development on the platform.
As a tech writer I (of course) need to both understand and write intelligently about Salesforce and my company’s products, but I’m not hands-on in any client orgs. It’s why platform certifications are not as crucial in my role as they are for my developer and implementation colleagues. Even so, I’ve been wanting to get my Salesforce Admin and App Builder certs for a long time, and I’m working toward those goals now.
I’m one of those tech writers who sort of backed into the profession. I first got interested in technology and the web back in the 1990s. I was an English major who started out in journalism (mostly trade magazines) and then learned HTML on my own. In the late ’90s I joined a small software startup that was eventually acquired by Borland. It was my first introduction to writing help documentation.
Many years later, after some layoffs and career changes (paralegal, content writing & editing), I joined another small software company as a technical writer. They specialized in higher ed credentials and eventually merged with Parchment. I worked there for three years (prior to the merger) and then hopped over to where I am now. I sincerely love my job and have never been happier. I celebrated my seven-year anniversary in 2026.
Anyway, I don’t have anything to promote at this time. I’m mainly just interested in connecting with other tech writers and tech enthusiasts, writing about the industry, and playing around with OxygenXML (my DITA/XML-based content tool) and Salesforce.
Salesforce Certifications
I have two Salesforce certifications, Associate and AI Associate, and am currently studying for the Administrator exam.
